- Carratraca Holds a Friday Street Market - Vivien Pelmore
All visitors to the Costa del Sol will have enjoyed a street market and even a boot sale, picking up a bargain or two, maybe some fresh produce and enjoying the atmosphere and local colour.
However many people like to combine a pleasant journey inland with a visit to a local street market, boot sale or one of the popular organic farmers markets. Organic farmers markets selling quality fresh produce and craft fairs are now commonplace in some of the inland towns a few kilometres from the coast and are attracting visitors and locals alike. There is plenty of local produce available at the organic farmers markets.
Homemade goods such as jams and pickles, pies, flans, cakes and tarts fill the stalls and look absolutely delicious.
The craft fairs attract talented artists from all over the region showing-off their handcrafted goods. Jewellery, carpentry, painting, ceramics and many other types of handicrafts can all be found making it an ideal places to search out that gift for somebody special .
All of these markets and boot sales take place during the morning, beginning between 9am and 10am and finishing around 2pm. Other times are stated alongside. It is always best to check with the local press before setting off because local fiestas and ferias can sometimes affect the markets.
